A fond farewall to Executive Director Katy Johansson
Dear Olympia Education Foundation Community,
It is with a full heart that we celebrate Katy Johansson as we announce her departure as Executive Director of the Olympia Education Foundation.
For the past seven years, Katy has been a true force of change and a powerful voice for students in our community. She stepped into the role in 2019 and led with clarity, compassion, and vision. Under her guidance, the Foundation strengthened its partnerships, expanded its reach, and deepened its impact across the Olympia School District and the Olympia community at large.
Katy expanded the Opportunity Grants program, empowering educators to close opportunity gaps through creativity and innovation. She fortified the Principal’s Emergency Fund, ensuring that students facing urgent needs, whether for clothing, food, or medical supplies, received immediate support. Her leadership has always been rooted in her love for the Olympia community and her firsthand experience in our schools. Her enthusiasm has shaped programs, inspired donors, and strengthened the safety net that supports our students every day.
Katy is now returning to the heart of the work she loves most. She will be heading back to her alma mater, Capital High School, to work directly with students. This full-circle moment perfectly reflects who she is: a leader who leads by doing, showing up, and staying close to the people she serves.
We are deeply grateful for Katy’s leadership, vision, and unwavering belief in this community and its students. While she steps down from the Executive Director role, we are thrilled that she will remain part of the Foundation’s story in the years ahead.
Thank you, Katy, for everything you have given and continue to give to Olympia’s students. Your service, heart, and the countless lives you’ve touched have left a lasting mark on our community and the Foundation.
With gratitude,
The Olympia Education Foundation Board of Trustees
