Student & Community Well-Being
About Student & Community Well-Being
The most recent Healthy Youth Survey (2023) confirms that our community is not immune to what experts are calling a mental health epidemic. In our schools, 65 percent of 10th-graders reported frequently feeling nervous, anxious or on edge. And 17 percent of 12th-graders had considered attempting suicide.
The goal of our Student & Community Well-Being efforts is to better-equip our entire community to support the social-emotional needs of students.
Student Well-Being Grants
For the 26-27 school year, counselors, social workers, behavior technicians, or those working in restorative and in search of funding for the development/creation of programs that specifically address social/emotional learning and mental health should use the Opportunity Grants application. The first application period is open until 5 p.m. June 18, 2026.
How can Student & Community Well-Being be improved?
So far, our efforts have included:
Student Well-Being Grants for Olympia School District staff who work directly with students.
A free speaker series open to all staff, students, families and caregivers.
A suicide prevention training made available to all teachers and staff.

A trauma-informed online mental health training during the pandemic.
