with gratitude

Dear Friend of the Foundation,

With the season of gratitude upon us, I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation to everyone who supports the Olympia Education Foundation and our mission to cultivate student potential.

Recently, we asked for emergency support for students who were at risk of losing the assistance that helps ensure they meet their basic subsistence and nutritional needs.

Thanks to countless kind and compassionate people throughout our community, we are able to make an additional 300 $50 grocery vouchers available to students who meet the federal definition of poverty. While the majority of these students is eligible to receive a free meal at school during the week, there is no guarantee that they will have food at home on the weekends or during a school break -- such as the one that begins this Wednesday and runs through Sunday, Nov. 30.

Additionally, and again thanks to a community that cares about students, we met our $7,500 Give Local goal. And this amount will be boosted thanks to the $100,000 Give Local Bonus Fund. Funds raised through Give Local can also be used to immediately support students who have urgent basic needs -- and all of our work to cultivate student potential.

If these students in need of support could, I know they would express their gratitude for ensuring they have nutritious food in their refrigerator, clean clothes to wear to school, heat on in their home, a roof over their head, and so many other resources that the Principal's Emergency Fund provides.

Wishing you and your loved ones a joyful holiday season!

Best,
Katy Johansson
